  • Wanted: Female Labidochromis sp. "Mbamba Bay"

I bought 4 of these from Fish-R-us, and it looks like I have all males. They all looked about the same; so maybe a tank full of males???

Where did you pick up any females? I probably couldn't pick them out of a mix, as I'm not that good.

I broke this off into it's own thread. I don't know where you find them, but I believe the females have very muted color, like almost a brown. Maybe that will help as you are looking.

Turns out one of them was......then they turned to 8 or so. Clauson has a few of them, including the female.

One of the fry from months ago may be female, I am not sure and not sure how the inbreeding will go if they do.

I actually think that these fish can look more or less the same......male or female. It seems only the dominant one will really color up. I will try to get some pics up of mine.....I have 4 now. the dominant male is very bright, one shows color if he/she wants to, one is very dark, one is sorta gray. The yellow fin is noticeable on all of them.

WOW, that was some fast responses. I knew I should have started this on a local board. Thanks! I had posted on a larger forum to see what those guys thought, and pretty much everyone says all males.

They look great, but I WAS trying to keep good ratios. So far they don't mess with each other, so maybe I do have some females. They don't mess with any of the other fish, but do get picked on by a smaller Metriaclima Pulpican that I have. He claimed about 1/4 of my 120 gallon for himself.

I will probably call up to Conroe to see if he has any drab ones that I can exchange. The entire tank looked like the ones that I have though, so either some better than average females, or a tank of 20 males. I doubt that was the case though. They are in Conroe, and I'm in south Katy though, so not like I can stop by anytime.

I have posted the link to the other forum that I posted pics into.
