It's how it functions, it's small and compact with two dual filters, one sponge and a fine plastic screen behind, and there's two stacked. And it's very powerful!!

Letta, what he said basically sums it up. It's additional mechanical filtration that catches particles floating around very efficiently. And my fish love the current it creates.
