  • WTB - Airpump for 55g+

I just put together a spiffy 55g and realized that the air pump I have is rather anorexic for this size of tank... I get one bubble every couple minutes....   a new air pump (bubbler?)  for my size of tank is $60 new    I'm sure that one of you wonderful gents and gals could probably pilfer your extra stuff and sell me something schnazzy (technical term)...

    Please help.

    Thx
    Crusty.

Are you asking for a standard airpump ?
I recommend you head over to Mike's Tropical Fish and pick up an airpump from him.  He should be able to set you up.  Just remember to give him your account name here so you can get a discount.

Actually, $30-60 for a new one....    I thought you had to keep the water oxygenated, i.e. agitate the water, isn't that what the bubbles do?  If its only required every so often, I can have my dog make some bubbles....   LOL....  oh jeez I'm funny....  LMAO...

A powerhead, not referring to "Scott", do the same thing if not better.  Point it upwards a bit to agitate the surface.

I like to place a sponge filter on the bottom of my tank and run a clear plastic tube from a power head to the sponge. It actually does two jobs in my opinion, it cleans and oxgenates the water at the same time.

Here is what I would be looking at.
What Filtration you have right now in the tank ?
I have a 58G with a Canister and HOB filter
I will most likely make it just a bigger canister one of these days, when I can buy one cheap which has media baskets so I have one to put a sock of Purigin or Adsorption Resin in it.
I have a Whisper Model 100 on a 12in wall of air on the side. (I really should hide it more, which I will do when I break the tank down one of these days to clean it completely out and change some things around, but that will wait until next year.

If you have cleaning under control already you only need an air pump to add O2 to the tank...  For that get yourself a good air pump - Mike can set you up with one for a good price at his store - if you don't feel you have filtration under control then I would suggest adding a filter to the tank that will do both.   I will forewarn you.. If you add a power head or like an internal with a venturi tube or external filter with a spray bar, and you want your tank to be quiet, this will not work.  If you add a separate air pump with airline tubing to a air stone or air wall, it will be more quiet around your tank.

See my colorful answer above about filtration.

I have a powerhead that will work but I don't have an undergravel filter.  It also has the ability to siphon air from above and blast it through the tank..  I guess I'll have to figure out how to mount it.  Currently, CAMEO helped me put my spray bar across the top of the tank....

I'll try mounting the power head solo and see what I get...   My 7 inch pink kisser likes to play in the currents.....
