what kind of sand did you end up getting? if it's that light where you have to worry then you'll always have sand in your filters.

The Eheim has it's motor up top so your good with that one, just dump it back into the tank when you clean, the wet/dry I wouldn't worry about either.

All you need is to break the sand up some, not play in it like you're at the playground. A think stick to dig through the sand is plenty. As for the poop, I usually just siphon right above the sand and that gets any unsightly detritus out of the tank, using a strong enough powerhead to move the water would suspend the poop long enough for the filters to get it.

NOW LETS SEE SOME PICS OF THIS TANK!

If the sand is that light, you could get MTS. They help with the stirring of the sand when they move. As for your eheim, Whenever I had light sand and my cichlids would kick it up from fighting, I would ALWAYS get it in my filter. Out of the 4 months I had sand in my tank, 2 of out of the 4 months, I had to unplug the filter and clean it because the sand was making the filter make gritty noises.
