Would like to know more about the Hequi's.

I'm converting my 29 gallon biocube to a shell dweller tank and am considering the pearly ocellatus.

These guys look really interersting though. Are the F1's or F2's?

How many would work in my bio cube?

Do you have any shells for sale?

I can ride out that way tomorrow.

What's the smallest tank they need?

        Hi Daniel
I would not put any more than a pair or possibly a trio in a 29 they are very agressive for shellies. The one I have are from F1 parents with a collection point of mbita. If you are looking for a colony type shellie I would look at something else. The parents tolerate the fry to a certain stage than it's out of there. these do seem to tolerate other types of fish in the tank however you must have an a bunch of extra shells in there plus some vision breaking scape.

I wouldn't put them in anything smaller than a 10. with a larger footpring more favorable. These fish can get real agressive real fast

Thanks for the info, Mike. I'm halfway temped to set up a 29g as a species tank for these guys. I was reading up on them, and they sound just as fascinating as they are beautiful!

Are you keeping a breeding pair or are you selling all you have?

I am going to keep a pair breeding. They are cool fish, they just need a little caution. I had a rough first couple of weeks with them till I got them sorted out

LoL, that's a nice way to say that they are mean SOB's Mike. I had some of them before and two of the dominant males managed to chance each other out of the tank somehow. Yes, they are highly aggressive for shellies.

I was thinking that the best way to go about it would be to get about 6 or so juvies and see if two pair off, then sell the rest. Then just let the two do their thing in a tank of their own. Would that work?

Thats exactly what I did Vicki. It worked, but Sunny is right on the money. I had one of my males get chased through a hole the size of a dime, still don't know how he fit lol. These fish could hold their own in a troph colony, some dithers would also be my suggestion to reduce agression

Andrew is correct. Those shells work fine. Just get at least two for every fish. You can also get them here if you are not that Brave..lol
