Glad you got it handled, I would have offered you some but I know I only have a few strands, probably nowhere near what you need! What caused the mini-cycle, anyway?

I'm treating the tank aggressively for algae. It's just a small mini-cycle, nothing to worry too much about. I'm getting about .25 nitrites every other day. Easily handled with water changes. As I get all the dead algae out of the tank, things should settle down.Originally posted by LooksLater View PostWhat caused the mini-cycle, anyway?
This tank is going through the same thing my 90g went through when I first started it. Once I get the 75g over this hump, things will be fine. It just has to mature. It's harder to get the "high tech" planted tanks going.
I have a bunch of Ludwigia that I'm going to move over. Plus, I bought some Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis' which is basically a weed in a high tech tank. So those should help the tank along.
I just hate this phase of starting up the tank. Lots of diatoms. Things not in balance yet. Tank isn't mature yet. I know it won't last long, but I'm itching for the tank to start looking beautiful like I know it will when it gets over this phase.Vicki

Oh, I see...things still balancing out, plus all the decaying algae matter. That makes sense. Hopefully it'll pass quickly and your tank will be gorgeous in no time. I know the feeling, I'm impatient also...green slime algae is driving me crazy in my 6g right now. Almost got it whipped, but....grrr. Not fast enough.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing new pics when you get it all set, your tanks are always beautiful!"I think that God, in creating man, somewhat overestimated his ability." -Oscar Wilde
