2 1/2 " these are big shrimp and they are filter feeders... That means they filter water and eat the micro algae. There is a video in invert.s. here on fishbox...

hey just curious will the bamboo shrimp survive in a tank with the water at 86 degrees?

86 degrees is probably really pushing the upper temp range that they can tolerate. most sources quote a range that doesnt exceed 80 degrees although i have seen one that mentions 84. what is more important is that these are filter feeders and are best left to well established aquaria (assuming you are talking about the new garage tank that you are planning). shrimp do not tolerate cycling very well either, they are sensitive to NH3 particularly.

well Im thinking about dropping the temp anyways to around 82-84 for the discus but will the shrimp survive in a tank with discus

Not sure about that. The discus may eat them. and i keep them in about 75 degrees. they need a tank that has good flow to feed. that maybe to much flow for the discus. they come from the rivers of veitnam. So they may take a high timp.
