Re: In Search of a quiet cannister filter for 150G

I would feel insufficient with 2x2217 on that size tank for Tangs. Tetras and stuff maybe but not cichlids.

I have a 2217 on my 30g and thought that was weak so I dumped all the mechanical media which was still not enough IMO so I added a mini-Tunze.

      it would look unkept.

      (2) 2217's would run a 150 even (2) 2215's, but the tank would not stay clean.  It would have enough bio, but man why spend the money on Eheim Filtration and have the tank look like crap.

If you want the cheapest filtration for a 150, I would go with a sump with a submersible pump and overflow.

IF you want quiet, then the only way to go is with canisters.  The cheapest canisters that work good..in a tank of this size, I would go with a Fluval FX5 from Andy at Fishland for $199, and then run a smaller Eheim or Rena Filstar for about $100.

Set up the small Rena or Eheim as a pure mechaical filter and clean it out each month.  The Fluval I would not open for about 3-4 months depending on what kind of fish are going into this tank.

Why is this on top when the date of last post was the 1st?

Well could the "Powers That Be" let this one go away?  I think we have worked this dead horse over pretty good.

I think it stays on top for a set number of days, and then AS LONG AS NO ONE REPLYS TO IT, it goes away into the "archived pages."
