  • Wanted: Malaysian Trumpet Snails

I recently converted to sand substrate and on the look out for some MTS to agitate the sand. I've called numerous fish stores in the Houston area but none seem to know what I'm talking about. Anybody on here have a few they wouldn't mind parting with? I've got a 20L so I only need a few to start out with.

    Thanks for looking,

    Sean

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Yep, i thought it was a good idea too and every night before I tore down my tropheus tank I would have them all over the glass and they like to climb out of the tank to so in the morning I'll have a foot full of shells.

i would think about some small clown loaches to help balance the population, otherwise MTS are too much of a good thing.

I talked to Sean for a while to make certain he knew what he was getting into. :)

Almost all pet stores have them in their tanks and are willing to give them away. Just ask nicely and I am sure they will be happy to part with a few. All you need is a few and you'll be quickly overrun. They are very effective in sand tanks for stirring the substrate, tylo's and assassins are also effective and can be more manageable in the long run, depending on your specific requirements.

Interesting thing is that Sean called a number of LFS... all of which claimed that they didn't have any.

I think they just do not realize what it is they actually have. I'd recommend going in and looking and pointing them out. I have had the same issues with directing folk to Houston Aquatics for bluefin killifish. They were there, but no one in the store realized what they were and said they did not have any. After describing exactly what they were and that they would have to be able to identify them they located them themselves and had to determine exactly what to pay for them...

they also have policies not to give or sell them to you, though every now and then you find an employee who doesnt care about that
