What kind would make a good live rock? I have 20 pounds of red lava rock for now. What should I get.

If you willing to pay $3.00/lb go to city pets. Their live rock is $3.00/lbs nice quality and cured

Lava Rock isnt the same thing. And many of them have heavy metals in them that can kill sensitive corals and fish.

Okay, what rock would you recommend me cycling? Limestone? I going to have two snow flake eels in the tank(55).

All I can say if you want to start the hobby in the right way, you can't be too cheap. IMO I rather do it the right way even though it will cost me more in the beginning rather than start cheap and have to repair more things or replace some things in the future that will cost more in the end.

I agree with the guys here man I had a Brackish tank and I still went with real live rock. Makes the biological filtration a lot easier without relying on some sort of media in a filter. In the end my pufferfish also liked the rock.
                            Don't be afraid, Frag!

sorry man, i just have found that going the easy way, and trying to substitute the right thing for the next cheapest thing in this hobby is not the right answer. thats why LR is for salt water and Holey rock is used for pretty much everything else. i am also new to salt and i am starting the same way as ou are. but if we cant afford the fundamentals to keep the fish healthy then you will have issues maintaining the fish or even buying the eels. as they are delicate fish and their food do not come cheap.
