  • Tropheus Livua - ***Sold

I have 12 fry that are about an inch in length.  All 12 are healthy and eating NLS 1mm pellets and flakes.

These guys have red rimmed eyes and throats.

I'm selling as a group only.  Asking $8 each...$96 for the group.

So, these guys would be F2 maybe? or do you know?

How about you give them to me and I don't turn you in for being a russian spy....

Seriously, can I keep them with my Ujiji ?

My colony is a mix of F0 and F1.  I know the mother was F0, but can't say about the father.

So these would have to be F2s.

As for them going with your Ujiji, I honestly don't know.  Geoff would be the best person to ask.  I think its fair to say that they would not cross breed.

          Hey Steve and Raul,

There is only 1 safe Tropheus when it comes to mixing and that is Duboisi.  Up until I seen pictures of a Kipili female and sp.black Bulu Point spawing together, I thought brichardi types were also very safe fish.  Now, my skirt has been blown up, and I tell you that I think Livua and Ujiji would be ok to mix, but I will tell you that 90% of all Tropheus Hybrids that I have come across have envoled a sp.red which the Livua are sp.red.

Steve you would need to be really careful, and when they reached 3.5" if they started spawing together, you got to be prepared to seperate the fish, or destroy the fry they spawn.

Well destroying fry would not be my first choice... :(

I'll give this scenario some time to diegest in my head a little more.

            Thanks guys

why would he have to destry the spawn?  if they bred would it be a "fish hobbyist" rule to destroy them?

                  Re: Tropheus Livua

What I am thinking is that Geoff, like many other Tropheus owners don't want to see impure lines show up on the circuit as hybrids..   This causes a very good looking fish to be less valuable at first, but later down the road as the market gets flooded very expensive because it will be hard to ensure that you have true quality fish.  Everyone will always assume you have a hybrid and not a pure fish if you cannot control linage.

I suppose I am old school like Geoff who just simply don't like to see a lot of "new" fish show up in tanks only because in the natural environment we don't see them there.   I am not against selective breeding where the genepool is not destroyed but rather a specific trait is worked on to make the fish more brighter or something like that.   The Electric Jack Dempsey is a good example.  They exist in the wild but rarely make it because they are so out standing that they get picked off easy.

I understand the need to "off" the fry, it's just that it would be very difficult for me to do. Anywho, we won't go there then.

Rockett, here's my offer, I need time to put together a good sized tank for the Ujiji I have now in a 55, once I move them n2 a bigger tank, I'll be happy to take the little boogers off your hands.

I will offer you 75.00 bucks at this point for the dozen Livua, but it will not be for a few weeks at least.

Hopefully, you will sell them before then. But if you don't check back with me if your willing to take 75.00 for them. That will be towards the end of November.

We can talk about this more in another thread about keeping wild fish and pure strains.  This thread is for Raul selling his fish, and I do not want to have any confusion here.

Cichlid Fan, if I don't sell by then, I'm sure we can come to an arrangment.

Anyone else interested these guys?  Livua are not as common as some of the other variants.  I'm wanting to move these guys soon.

Raul how long does it take for the little guys to get about 2.5 - 3.00 ". Also do you need to dedicate a tank for them or can they mix with Malawi Peacocks? The reason I am asking is because I have seen them mixed with Malawi Peacocks and Mbunas up in Fish gallery this Weekend. They were not the same species of tropheus of course. My wife likes tropheus but I just don't want to dedicate a whole tank to one type of fish I like variety in my tanks.

They should do fine with peacocks as long as you are feeding them high quality foods and maintaining the tank for the Tropheus.

3" shouldn't take but a few months from what I have seen with my Ilangi fry.

Do they eat a special type of food? I feed my peacocks Spectrum and I for got the name but it starts dachi I know it's in a silver bag and it's a little on the high side. Do they require special attention?
