I agree with the Serpent Star since they are reef compatible. I believe you are talking about a Red Knob Sea Star (Protoreaster linckii)If so they are not reef compatible. When you are doing a reef tank, it is VERY important you stick with what is compatible as you will soon find out the reef part of the tank is more expensive and sensitive than the fish. If you are more concerned with the type of fish you want than what is good for the corals, I would go with a FOLWR.65G African Tank (1 Ropefish, 1 Senegal Bichir, 3 Spotted Climbing Pearch, 2 Black Calvus "Zebra", 1 Featherfin Cat, African Knife, 2 Upside down Cats and an African Butterfly Fish.
30G "The Mudhole" 3 African Mudskippers (Periophthalmus barbarus)
20G 4 Longfin Zebra Danio, 2 Julii Cory, 2 Bolivian Ram, 1 Stripped Raphael and 3 Glass Cats.

If you're truly set on a star look into a linkia starfish. From my experience they were reef safe but they tend to not do so well in smaller systems. I would recommend at least 40 for one and that pushing it.
