  • Wanted: Black Pearl Killifish Eggs (Austrolebias nigripinnis)

Looking to buy some Black Pearl Killifish eggs (Austrolebias nigripinnis). I found two people in Europe that are breeders selling 25+ eggs for about $8 and 35+ eggs for about $13.

I was wondering if anyone here are breeding them. I'd like to buy eggs only as I am trying to cull them for a pair or possibly a trio for an upcoming nano tank.

If you have any leads as to where to get some locally or at least in the states, please feel free to comment or PM me.

    They look like this:

I have not seen them locally, but have seen US sellers on aquabid a few years ago. Try posting up a wanted ad there or rtry the AKA (American Kilifish Association)

I was trying to check out AKA earlier but I had to wait for an approval on my account

I tried posting up a want add on AKA last year. They refered me to aquabid. LOL
European keepers actually are pricing them in Euro. There is one guy who I think maybe in Portugal or Spain that keeps mainly diffriant variants of Austolebias. I think his name is Sam.

Wow lol! The guy I was talking about it's a in Portugal, he does international shipping but yeah prices were in Euros. If I can't find them locally or in the states, I'll contact the guy and get him to ship them. Really hooked on their looks and wouldn't mind paying for the shipping.

Tako only meets rarely and I'm fairly certain I have not seen them even mentioned as I was hunting some a few years back. I eventually just got some African Annuals (Guenther's Nothos) and had my hands full with them. The Pearl killifish are way cool and would love to see a local keeping them (just in case offspring get available, lol). I have a deep seated desire to do a Blue Gularis tank as well and the SA Rivulus species are terrific. Just too many killies for my house

I may just set up a 10g or 20long just for them and breed them out instead of adding them to the 5g

I thought about buying from him. We may need to do a group buy for eggs. He has several strains. The adults will not ship well at all. I've seen other starins at LFS from time to time, all males all look horrible and die after shipping.

There are tons of species in Austrolebias sometimes refered to as Cynolebias (lots of debate on this).
Here's an international link to a data base on them: http://www.cynolebias.org/public/index.html

I've heard this many times which is why I was looking for eggs. It looks like I might have to purchase them from that guy in Europe. I have no clue what else he sells, but I'm only in it for the Black Pearls.

Okay. I went back to look at aquabid and this is what came up when I searched for the fish... I was not aware of the different strands/varients(?). Are they all the same Austrolebias nigripinnis? What's with the extra fancy words after them? The same guy is selling 6 different variants with duplicate listings (one for international shipping and one for EU shipping). I'm thinking all of those posts are the same fish/eggs but tagged with made up names at the end. I tried searching for them and the only thing that comes up are these aquabid listings... Anyone with more insight want to chime in?
