  • Wanted: Looking for GBR's, shrimp and Pygmy Cory's

Hi, I'm almost done with the planting in my tanks, so I'm wanting to start bringing in the fish I don't have yet.

I'm looking for a pair of German Blue Ram's (or 4 or so juvies), some species of shrimp (I'm a total shrimp noob, so if there is a beginner shrimp, that's for me) like RCS or similar, and a small school of Pygmy cory's.

Also may be interested in some neon tetras as well. I have 6 in my 29 and would like a bigger school.

Thanks in advance, I can be reached here or txt at 832.221.5049

GBRs do pretty well in harems if you can find adults, try a 1:3 ratio. They also love dwarf shrimplets. RCS should be a good one to start with. pygmy cories seem to get along with both

    45G Exo-Terra - Terrarium w/ Hermit Crabs (in progress)

I'm hoping everybody gets along, but I have a 20L ready to go just in case. I thought about a group, but would prefer just a male and female GBR. I'm trying the group thing with my convicts and so far it's chaos with no breeding. Going to have to figure something out with them.

Last I was in Fish Gallery they had GBRs as well as Electric Blues (Which were $50/pair). Aquarium World on 290 had GBRs for a much better price. All looked healthy.

You can get blue rams from petsmart for about $6.00 also red cherry shrimp is a bad Idea. your Rams will eat them. If you have your heart set on shrimp try amonos. they are bigger and the rams can't kill and eat them as easy.

1m:3f is a good ratio for GBRs. To prevent stressing out one female, aggression is dispersed amongst the three. I believe HAW has neon tetras. He also has Green Neons, yellow fire shrimp, nice manzanita driftwood, and two or three different species of Cory cats. I will be heading over there today, so I could check out his stock to confirm this.

Aquarium world is really far from Dickinson. I honestly try not to shop at FG because their inflated prices, but sometimes they have good prices on livestock. I go in to browse!

as mistahoo says, the idea behind a harem is to disperse agression on the female. i work right next to AW, i can stop by if you cant find them elsewhere. my rams get along fine with amano shrimp

I had ghost shrimp and corys in a tank with rams at one point and my corys actually took the brunt of the rams aggression not the ghost shrimp. One of the corys lost most of its tail not saying that will happen with you but was my experience. I have angels in that tank now and they don't bother my shrimp at all so it just depends on the individual fish you get. The ghost shrimp can color up some too, mine have orange stripes with red bands on their legs.

Thanks for all the help and info. I have a line on some red cherry shrimp, close to home.

I moved back to pearland so I guess I need to change my location. But FG is super high on Rams. I've also seen them at Petsmart for $6. I'd like to some healthy fish off an individual though. I may hold off on the cory's for the time being, and the Petsmart by our house has tons of neons, I just don't like shopping there. The girl who runs the aquatic section is very nice, and the tanks all look good for the most part, I've just always had bad luck. Maybe it's me? But I seem to have better luck elsewhere.

You could try waiting til the auction coming up and may get the rcs and rams cheaper.

I'm in no rush on the Rams. Would 4 be too many for a 29 gal? I'll give the harem a shot I suppose. I'll prob be picking up some Otto's in a few weeks too. Forgot about them.

i would think 4 rams would be fine in a 29 gallon.

I agree, esp. if you were to get a 1m/3f.
