  • Wanted: large giraffe catfish

Looking for a large giraffe catfish, atleast 7".  There is a local fish store that has one around 14" but that may be a little too big(have not decided).  If anyone is selling one or knows of one for sell please let me know.

A 7" one will be 14" quickly. Youd be better off getting a 2-3" one for like $25, and growing it out yourself.

Go to Ultimate Fish on 2920 & Rhodes road in Spring. Alex always has them.

Man, then I must have been doing something wrong.  I have had 2 in the past, and neither of them ever grew that much.  This could have also been because the largest tank i have ever had was a 75.

You could have had the dwarf Giraffes.

                Re: Wanted: large giraffe catfish

About 2 years ago, me and my cousin bought giraffe cats from the same store at the same time and I put mine in a 150, and he put his in a 100.  I'm "fish-sitting" his giraffe cat right now while he gets another tank set up and I was really surprised at how small his is compared to ours.  We feed ours small sinking pellets, he fed his whatever he was feeding his other fish.  Ours is 22", his is about 12".  I think the tank is a factor, but food must be too because ours finally outgrew the 150 so we got a 210 so he could stretch out more.  He prefers to hang out facing the front of the tank, so in the 150 he was kind of scrunched up with his snout against the glass.    Anyway, my point is that I think there are factors in how big and how fast they get.  I know that since we've had my cousin's cat over here, he's bulked up quite a bit.  I think it may be the pellets we are feeding.  They love them!  I highly recommend them though...Hoover is our favorite!
