  • Wanted: RTC

I would like to buy a small one. How much do they usually cost? If no one here has them, where can I get them for a good price.

About $20 for a 2-3" one. Xtreme has them. So does fish ranch and unlimited I think. If you plan on keeping it on that 55gal I would feed every two weeks, but even then they will still grow ridiculously fast. Mine went from 2" to 11" in about two months

Yeah, I plan on keeping my fish on a one week feed of about 20 comets. I fed them for the first time an it was really cool. I just want to grow them out and trade in for a baby when I need to.

Thinking like this is the core of a major problem in this hobby. No true hobbyist who believes in the proper support and care of any species would think like this.

Why would anyone take on a fish that they know they cannot support for the full grown size in the system they have.

Planning on dumping or trading it as they think it is is just plain irresponsible.

It will wind up like pacu's, giant pleos and such in our waterways destroying natural species and habitats.

We as Hobbyist who care should help stop this problem as well as our TP&W folks. The stores who sell these types fish should also be held responsible.

I agree that it's not a good plan to buy an animal knowing that you're not going to be able to care for it. Also, planning on cutting its food short to keep it from growing sounds like a cruel plan. I've had 2 RTC's over the years, and they are probably my favorite fish, but they get huge, eat like pigs, and are a mess to take care of. Even with a 375 gal setup, I'm having to convince myself not to get another one because of how big they get, lol.

i have one over a foot long that i've been trying to sell or even give away for several months. no store will take it in. this fish will most likely end up on my grill this summer. no regular person (except chris360) has business having one of these in a home aquarium. they simply grow too large, and even at this size, i've had to pull almost everything out of the tank because the fish is strong enough to hurl the rocks into the glass. buy a cute baby rtc - you're gonna have a bad time.

29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails
45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers

                            75g-
