Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
..... HMMMM......seriously debating if there is a (reasonably) practical way to heat the above ground pond on my deck for them... I LOVE those fish, I think they're adorable!! :)

Titanium heaters. Not too big and extremely accurate.
Let's take up a collection- we can all chip in, the pond will be toasty, and I'll adopt the monsters that outgrow people's tanks, lol! :)
The pond is about 1,500 gallons- 8'x8', and about 3' deep. A big drawback for keeping it warm is that it's built into the covered deck area, so no help from the sun. I'll look into it a bit and see if it can happen (though I can tell you I don't have $800 to drop on it!). I have spa heater/equipment on the side of the house from the previous owners, and I"ve always wanted to mess with that a bit to see if it could be flushed out and hooked up to the pond (it's gas, so I don't think it would be too outrageous to run)but haven't gotten around to really trying it. After Ike hit, I put my 3 pacus and my RTC (all were in the 24"-26" range) into the pond, and they were great out there until the fall and the temp got too low.
