Well the cold weather is here and we have more tanks than heaters! LOL Anybody have any extra heaters laying around that they want to get rid of pretty quickly? All sizes welcome but preferably for 55gallon and up tanks.

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
If you are looking to buy, Charles at FRII has some great heaters at really good prices. We just picked up 2 the other day and they work GREAT! As far as extras...we never have extras, we always have a tank in need of a heater. Sorry. I'll ask my cousin though...he might have some. AND he's in Pasadena. Our Fishhouse

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
I got 3 of FRII's $10 heaters and one cooks in my 55...I turned them down enough to keep the tanks just right; so any decent heater will do ya if you don't put your tank in a cold breeze.
'Course the better heaters last longer, and I probably wouldn't use the $10 heater on a 125.Working for a better Future for my Fish!

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
Well problem is the tanks are in the garage and it is COLD out there! LOL I have great heaters for all the inside tanks but all of my fry tanks and miscellaneous tanks are outside in the garage and only a few have heaters. We have been leaving the lights on the ones without heaters to keep them warm but that in itself is going to cause some issues soon. Guess I will check out Fish Ranch II today thanks.Heather

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
Just a heads up...I got a really heavy duty heater from Ken's Fish, online, for $10.95; several members get stuff from him, maybe get in on an order to save postage.Working for a better Future for my Fish!

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
Don't remember the brand...they were the $9.95 ones.
No, they were new.
They clip on the edge of the tank; the nice one I got from Ken's was a submersable (how do you spell that word?) and is 300 watts, good for a larger tank. 100 watts is best for a 30 gal or less (the $9.95 ones), but I used them on my 20, 55, and 10...worked great.
I would not use less than a 300 watt on a 55 and up. Too much work for the heater if there is no other heat source in the room, like out in a non-heated garage.
I am not very knowledgeable on heating large tanks in unheated rooms, my experience has been mostly with 55 gal and smaller in my small apt.Working for a better Future for my Fish!

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
As a side note, I think a space heater would end up costing more than running a dozen fish tank heaters.
(not sure if you can buy raditor's anymore)

Re: WTB Heaters ASAP
Not very practical if you think about it. The raditor would have to heat the entire area surrounding the tanks, and it could not do that effectively. You would burn 15 times the energy using an outside (not in the water) source of heat.
The tank heaters would be on for only a few minutes at a time, compared to the raditor sitting out in the open air in the garage running constantly.
