I thought it was illegal to sell Arowanas.. Are they pretty much loners, i.e., only other Arowana, or will they behave with African Cichlids?

They will be have with cichlids since its pellet trained. They aren't illegal.

only the asian (genus Scleropages) arowanas are illegal.

Every arowana I've ever had eats pellets, they'll eat just about anything you throw in there. It's no suprise...
