  • For Sale: FREE Red Moliro

I just noticed that one of my "Kachese" is a Red Moliro. I think it's a male, but I'm not certain. Free to the first person who has a colony and shows up. Fish is about 3.5-3.75". Healthy

Your answer is not helping. If I knew then I wouldn't ask. I'm new to tropheus. What's the obvious different ? I bought these 2 groups from a same seller. I may have cichlids in the wrong group.

Moliro are more of a brick red color with brighter red by their tail. Kachese have more of a broad range of colors. They can look as yellow as an illangi but generally more of an orange color along the lower half/belly

There is a specific horizontal red marking close to the caudal fin in the moliro. A dead give away is that the Red Kachese have red/orange markings on their gill/gill juncture.

Notice the Red marking near the caudal fin.

+1 one dead give away on the kachese is the orange marking on the gill plate. But i would not take it as far as comparing it to the ilangi. Not even close

Yeah the Red Kachese is the most colorful red IMO and if a comparison is made to any fish, I think in their light coloration, they can look somewhat similar to the Golden Kazumba

That's a closer reference to what I was going for. Kachese color range is so vast compared to other trophs based on their temperment

You're right about that. When they are bored or stressed, they look like any other red. When they are excited they are beautiful. I have a few males that are constantly colored up and they are gorgeous. There's variations too. My first colony looked like they came straight from a picture from the net. Always orange. These haven't gotten there yet, but time will tell.

It's a female. Vent is dropping and my dominant male is trying to breed with her lol. It's finally pending.
