I'm not an expert on Tropheus, but I don't think 6 of them would be a good number to start with, but who knows, maybe you would get lucky with the M/F mix??

I personally would shoot for at least 16 in a 75g.

Re: F1 --- Tropheus SP. RED Moliro Fry for Sale

i beg to differ. i think it's all dependent on the group itself. awhile back i bought a trio of dubs (as fry) and put them in my 55. they grew up together and the group formed fine as a trio (1M/2F) now they're sold to imagirlgeek and have already spit out their own fry. then I picked up 6 chimba fry before i got the larger 10 F1's, and the group worked fine together, no aggression. I'm not saying to shoot for small numbers, but it is do-able.

There are exceptions to almost every rule, and since they are siblings, the chances maybe even better? I see my fry squabbling alot, but they don't make a hobby out of it.

                      It could work ....

                        I double beg to differ.....

Dubs have been argued about for the longest whether they are even tropheus....which their traits lead to believe they might not be....Any fry can be housed together but did you have them like so when they became adults or start breeding?

I let my trophs release in the main tank and the fry grow up together with the adults....the last batch I had got somewhat big and they would fight just like their parents...sometime leading to missing finnage.....we are talking about 1-2" fry in a 6' tank.

I saw go with the larger group.....if dblondefemme gets some this will be her first experience with tropheus so lessen the room for error and it the odds of it being a successful attempt is greater.

As CichlidFan said, there are exceptions to every rule. Everything I've read on the internet or a book about any african cichlids in general regarding agression or group numbers, has not always been the outcome the way it said it would. I like to think of each situation as an experiment. The trio of duboisi's I had started as fry and matured through adult hood and bred a few times, without ever being separated. Again, not recommending a small group, just sayin it's do-able without them killing each other off.

Did your 6 chimba fry ever make it to adulthood? How did they do together in a small group as adults?

I don't count dubs....those are about the only things I have seen live somewhat peacefully with each other.
