        Tank is already cycled. It was given to me as a complete set up with livestock.

        How much would I get for 20 bucks worth

            No really, 20 bucks will buy you probably 6-8 large heads (I need to trim anyway) if it's a nanotechnology tank, you'll be overflowing with xenia!

              This is what the tank looks like. I'm trying to clean it up and expand to a 30g. Saltwater is so expensive, much more than my freshwater.

                Re: Pulsing Xenia

                Yeah it can be really expensive, the key is taking your time for two reasons ;
                1. Rushing in will be expensive in lost livestock if you haven't done your research. Best to take it slow so that beautiful fish you've always wanted stays alive and healthy for many years.
                2. If you take your time you can cut the cost of your bill just by hanging around the forum. Don't rush out and spend 300 on that brand new skimmer, just bide your time on the forums and soon enough you'll find it for $100 from a generous member, maybe even $50 from a super generous member!

                Don't ever believe you will make money from your tank either... We all go through that stage at some point (HEY! I just had the greatest idea of all time! If I paid $50 for this anemone, can't I just cut it 4 ways and sell it all on for $200????)
                Be patient with what you have and keep an eye out for irresistible bargains on the forum and you can make the hobby alot cheaper, plus you'll learn a metric ****-tonne of stuff from the regular members

                  I want to take my time with this tank because I'm really not fully prepared for a salt tank and still in the process of learning. Hell, I wasn't expecting to have one for another year. The tank is already well established, I mean it's not new, but the tank has been running for over a year before it was passed to me. Right now, I have it stable with the cleaning and water changes. I wanted to introduce new coral slowly over time and I wanted to start off with the Pulsing Xenias. After that, I will upgrade to a bigger tank, a 30g, and probably go looking for a protein skimmer around then.

                    Re: Pulsing Xenia

                    Sounds like a plan! And xenia is a good "test" coral as it has a bit of a reputation for either spreading like weeds or dying pretty much instantly, you'll know if your water is ready to support at least easy soft corals.
                    You're right about the skimmer as well, for now you have a very low bioload so it's not really necessary, you can wait and look when you upgrade/add more and it'll give you a good while to keep an eye out for a bargain.
                    Kudos for taking your time. It's the best and only way, fill all that spare time with reading!

                        That depends on where you are to be honest, also when you're free.
