To get rid of algae, smaller plecos seem to work best for me.  I have seen a larger pleco actually eat feeder fish while simply crusing the tank.  How big is the cichlid?  How big is the tank?

Like Dblondefemme state most large plecos are worthless.

I do believe the largest pleco I have sold was closer to 20inches but I do have one in my store thats about 1ft. And yes they are worthless...

I don't like to sell a customer something for a certain purpose knowing it wont serve it. I'll let them know it's not gonna do what you intend and them them make thier own decsion, but most customers like to see for themselves. After all if the little ones do such a great job, well obviously the big ones gonna go nuts with all that algae!

But since they are bigger the should be able to clean more algae in a bigger tank......that's how it has to work....Like how big cars use more gas vs. small cars.  :wink:

If hes set on getting a big one, talk to Raul RRocket2002. He ended up with the two monsters i gave to Scott a year ago. I think hes trying to sell them still, theyre at least 14" if memory serves.

Those Discus eggs are mine. Mike said hed sell the babies to me for $0.25 a piece.

Anyways when I have an algae problem in my fry tanks, I throw in the biggest pleco I can find! That tank is cleaned out in no time!

Pat @ Fish and Pets unlimited on bissonett always has some monsters awhile back he had at least 15 over a foot long.
