(my new hobby) any questions PM

Jguerra -- the eheim 2217 is a VERY good canister filter.. but you would need as a minimum 2 of them to filter a 150 -- ie you will need a second filtration system to handle the load if you have a 2217.
They may list 160g for max tank size but your turn over is only around 265g/hr and if you have cichlids they need a higher turn over, somewhere in the neighborhood around 4-5x turn over, which means you need around 600-750g/hr filtration. 2 will give you the minimum you are looking for, 3 more optimum, but THEN you would be better off if you picked up something like a 2260 or 2262 depending on what you want to keep in your tank. I am not telling you to not get a 2217, but if you want to keep messy cichlids then you are going to want to have the filtration to match.
My opinion would be for a 2217 and a 2250 on a 150 -- with the 2217 set to polish the water and the 2250 set to handle bio load.
Or get a single 2260 or 2262 (these are beasts when they come to filtration) and they will handle just about any 150 without blinking an eye. The 2262 just has a more powerful pump therefore can move more water than the 2260.. They share the same internal bio/chem chamber sizes.

hey zulaab thanks for the information you have all the great info.. thanks a lot.. hey do you think that since i have a penguin 350 and a emperor 400 that by adding the 2217 would be good or would the 2260 or 2263 be better than all that put together.. ?? i really appreciate your information THANKS!!!
I run the 2217 on my 55 gal and it handles up on the tank pretty well. but I don't think I would run it (by its self) on anything larger than a 75. It is a great filter though. It keeps everything very clean and I don't even have to use charcoal but I do have to use a bubbler where as I didn't have to when I had HOBs on this tank.
I use a 2215 and a Penguin 170 on my African cichlid 55 and its fine...but I do a 60-75% water change weekly as well.
My 75 runs with a 2217 and a Emporer 240 with 20% weekly changes, but they are a few angels and apisto cichlids so the bio load is not as great as Africans.
My 135 runs with a 2217 and a 2229 for Discus and Rams with 20% weekly changes.
I agree with Zulaab a 2217, while a great filter, alone will not handle the bioload a 150 African tank will produce.
