  • GOLDEN BARB from WEST HOUSTON (FOUND NEW HOME--THANX)

2 Inch Golden Barb  in West Houston needs a new home.

He is too agressive toward cory cats and I have several. This fish and a former tank mate killed one cory cat in a 15 gallon tank when all the fish were much smaller. Later I moved all the fish to a 55 gallon and all was well until this fish was left as the sole golden barb in the tank, and even then it was good for many months--but then just this last week I discovered a cory with nearly nipped off fins. (this is the only fish capable of doing the damage)

Last of his kind and last barb of any kind in my tank now (there were some cherry barbs), does not like being alone and I find these fish too apt to nip fins to buy more.

Put the barb in a 15 gallon two days ago to protect the catfish and the barb has been going nuts--hates the smaller tank--races around and thrashes himself out of frustration--wants to freeswim in a large tank.

Now today I am having to move the corys into the small tank, to spare the barb's sanity-- but I want to find a new large home for the barb ( :
The cory's also like a larger tank, and I feel this barb will pine away on its own even in the 55.

So ( : If you have a large tank --at least a 29 but preferably a 55 or larger and feel sorry for this fish (LOL let's face it--he's not valuable enough to warrant driving across Houston to get him, but if you are close and  have a spot for him, he would appreciate it)

    best,
    Oxyrhynchus

I'm over at 290 and Gessner....I've got the tarter sauce, where's the barb?

Seriously, if you can't find a nice home for him soon, I'll put him/her in my community tank.

Yes, that's it exactly, it looks just like the one in the back. It's a good size.

Lucy, I left a message on your answering machine/voicemail, and since you have 3 large tanks, I'm sure the barb will be happy in one of them ( :

Why is the algae eater "stupid?" does that mean he's just decorative and no longer eats any algae? that happens <g> I might take him if he's not too large as I have nothing in my 15 gallon eclipse now and I should keep something in there till I restock.

Re: GOLDEN BARB from WEST HOUSTON (FOUND NEW HOME--THANX)

                      Hey There!!
He's doing great and just as I thought he would, he has teamed up with my baby silver dollars.  I think he is too awed by the much larger fish in the 55 with him to be aggressive and he seems to be happy.

I have been trying to get a pic of him to send to you but that little dude can move!  All I have gotten so far is an orange blurry image and you can't really tell it's a fish.

He has a little cubby hole in a corner with a fake plant and 2 rocks that he sleeps behind and he tries to steal blood worms out of my (much larger) Severum's mouth, which is just too funny.

Occasionally he will fight with a loach over prime cave areas but this is usually short lived.  I think the clicky sounds the loach makes scares him.

I'll send some pics when I manage to get some.
Thanks for letting me take him and rest assured he is adjusting well and being very spoiled.

                        Lucy,

Did you find a new home for your Scats? Pete and Repete are still ready to move when and if you are ready for them.

Re: GOLDEN BARB from WEST HOUSTON (FOUND NEW HOME--THANX)

I could probably go ahead and put them in with the scats.  They are larger than Pete and Repete and super fast and the only things in the tank are the 2 scats, 1 uber large Al oscar and black ghost a pleco and a few feeders that will never get eaten, so it's pretty empty for a 120 and I think my filteration can keep up.

So I am ready when you and Fishlady(?) are.
just one question....whatcha want fer um??  As soon as we hash that out, I can come get them.
I'll send a pm  with my cell, you can call, text or email.  the email will be the cell # at tmomail.net.
