Does the fact that it was genetically engineered in the far east from south and central american fish make it an "asian cichlid"?

I believe this is the problem with these fish.. they are so inbreed hybrid that only Asians would be the ones who could have come up with the idea in the first place

8O  Dang!  We have 2 flowerhorns and love them!  They have almost as much personality as the Trophs. (I said ALMOST)     They eat straight from our hands.  Why do people dislike them so much?

I like my $2.00 flowerhorns I got from the last HAS auction, low quality or not!

Charles, is that the same concept of the "asian pleco" that I have that I got from Planet Fish from their original location. It's not a hillstream loach, it's a pleco with irregular shaped spots on it. I remember mentioning to the Planet Fish workers that there are no plecos in Asia, and not one of them gave me a response! Then again, they also called jade gobys and benny gobys "dragon gobys"!

Same reason they dislike blood parrots, these guys don't like hybrids. I personally have no problems with hybrids. :wink:

I personally think it's low grade cause that's what it is.....not because it is a hybrid......most humans are hybrids including myself so I can't hate that.

I have seen some really nice ones that make me just stare in aww but that one in the link is not the best looking or even near decent looking compared to what I have seen.

I don't care that they are hybrids. I really like parrots, just think flower horns are ugly and all look the same. The quality thing is not at all related to anything, it just  related to what the seller can convince you of.

Ed and EK, how do you determine the quality? We have a couple but really don't know a whole lot about the breeding and quality of FH's

Head, Red coloration, characters on the side of it's body, where they are located, where what color is.....Not a avid follower but you might be able to ask Mike's dad....
