WTB- Fahaka Puffer

I have decided to take the next step and play with the big boys. Anyone know where I may find a Fahaka Puffer that is in good health and not too large. I want to start one of these guys in a 55gal.


Hold on, time out, before you say anything.  I know this guy will require alot of room as he gets larger. Well I am keeping that in mind and will get a larger tank for him as required.  

If there is a "quality" LFS that someone knows of or a known member here on the fishbox, then I am good. Otherwise I will keep looking. I am tired of buying fish that have no history or are sick or something else. Please let me know.



If you want I can trade you a male and female black lab. They are lots of fun and very loving. I must warn you they chew everything in sight. If you have a fish pond they will eat the floating therm.  If you have any flagstone in your landscaping within reach....it will be chewwed until powder and they will dig holes until the end of time unless you fill them with concrete......

kidding about the labs..I am not allowed to trade them or even leave the gate open hoping they will run and be free. so Just let me know about the puffer please

That is where I need the help of the people here who have them. It will be starting out in a 55g.

If I read right they grow about 1" per month. You could probally start with a 4-5" puffer. I have seen them for sale on aquabid but I have not seen any at lfs. They seem to grow fast during the first year and then slow down after that. I don't have one but I have researched and seriously thought about buying one.

I don't think there are any small enough for a 55g.

Just my 0.02 worth.

so what is the puffer that grows to be 4-10"  isnt that a fahaka? And for a fish this size (4-10") by itself,   why is it required that you have a huge tank. Someone please educate me?

Because they need the room to move around.....the dart like torpedoes, grow at an astonishing rate, eat like no other and poop like no other....then there is the mess they make.

With all that in mind it would be wrong to cage them to such a small tank and the water parameters would suffer.


Do as you please though since it is your money....just thinking about the fish that's all.

no thats why I asked. If i cant do it right then I wont do it at all.  I still have the 135 but may just wait until i can have a tank that works. I was mistaken thinking these would be around 10" or less and reviewed some note and saw 20"   so having a 150-200g would be in order.  thanks for the help everyone.

I have a 3 yr old female that is roughly 14". These are beautiful fish, but they do require a large to very large tank to be happy and healthy. As close to a dog as you can get, tho I don't recomend petting!

I am thinking that when a Fahaka bites that has to hurt to no end.
