  • Buffalohead steatocranus casarius NOW AVAILABLE

I have babies I need to find new homes for.  I am attaching pictures of the parents as well as pics of the wee ones.  They are only about 1/2" long.  I have 5 or so who are a little older and rounder.  It is too early to tell gender.  The 5 that are a few weeks older than the itty bitty fish you will see in the pics are  3 for $15 or all 5 for $25.  The smaller fry 3 for $12. Or... make me an offer for a trade.  I do not wish to sell singularly.  Yes, they are very small.  They like a current in their tank, and I have plants in with the babies.  They would do well in their own tank until they get bigger.
I have 12 or so of the smallest of these.  So...supplies are very limited.

nope, no room for new shell dwellers.  Update... the larger fry are gone.  Don't worry fshfrk I have some for you ;-).  Reminder, the fry are very small... a small tank to grow them out is recommended.  Once larger they WILL hide and can be quick when the time is right (like catching them).  The more they grow, the more expensive they become.  A juvie online runs $9.99 a piece online... not including shipping.  I'm sure Charles will have a good deal on these, but all I can say are mine a home raised and on the north side of town ;-).  Hey Charles, maybe you and I could set up a trade in the future.

Also... I currently am down to 10 itty bitty fry left.  They are about 2-3 weeks old.  They are not fast growers.

Robert, it was great seeing you again, please keep me posted on my babies.
I have noticed in my tank I have two groups of breeding adults.  It is so awesome to see the parents taking care of them.  In such a small tank, having two breeding groups as well as misc. adults swimming around.... is unusual (from what I have been told.  I love seeing the babies aggressively chowing on whatever I give them.  There are some of hte 1/2" babies still up for sale.  The group I sold today were closer and and some over and inch.  No matter what is occurring in life...seeing it in the form of babies is truly exciting.

Re: Buffalohead steatocranus casarius NOW AVAILABLE

I have 4 groups of cichlids breeding in the same tank 125 gal.  Ranking the parenting from the best to the worst: bumble bee mother is the best, she hide her babies under different pile of rocks.  Yellw electric mothers blow their babies under the same rock or in the base of a artificial plant.  Red zebra let her babies come out a bit early, and electric blue mother is dumb.  She didn't bother to hide her babies making them too easy meal for the other cichlid.  I have a pair of brichardi used to breed in a 10 gal tank.  They try to establish their territory now in the 125 gal tank for their newborn but so far no luck.

I enjoy seeing new born babies grow into adult, the whole life cycle in the tank.  Somehow seeing babies became food kind of hurt my feeling but I think it is part of the nature, best fit survive.
