Re: leaking fish tank
I am sure that one of the Geeks will be online soon and can assist you. They have sealed a tank or two.

Re: leaking fish tank
Do you have any spare tanks ? Maybe someone on here can lend you a tank for a few days while you do the re-sealing... it should not take you long... maybe two days at most.

Re: leaking fish tank
I can tell you how to reseal it. We've resealed 2 - 210's. All you need is a few razor blades, and a tube of GE Silicone I (for door and window). Don't get the GE Silicone II or the stuff for kitchen and bath, they contain a chemical that prevents mold and it will kill your fish.
I also like to use those gloves that come with hair dye...just a personal preference. The first one I did without gloves and my fingers smelled like silicone for hours.
You have 2 options. We've done it both ways. Some people will say that if you don't reseal the entire tank, it will leak. We resealed the entire thing on the first one, and only the seam that was busted on the second one.
1. Using the razor blade, cut the silicone out of the tank. Make sure you get all of it. It's important not to leave bits and pieces so you can get a good seal.
2. You can vacuum out all the pieces of silicone, or pick it out by hand. Whatever you want.
3. I put some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and run it all up and down the area to reseal to make sure all the dust, dirt, etc is gone.
4. Now you're ready for Silicone. Cut the tip of the nozzle at approximately forty five degrees with a quarter inch opening.
5. Put about a quarter inch bead all the way down, and smooth it with your finger (or a spoon). Make sure to get a good bead in the corners.
Wait about 48 hours, then add water to make sure you got it. No leaks? You're done! Our Fishhouse

Re: leaking fish tank
for a temp tank for a few days I can say that Mike had a great set up of several rubbermaid garbage tanks with filtration. It held the fish until he could get the tanks set up. I recommend putting them where they won't cook during these 100degree days.5.5 fw fluval chi - class N top bar snake chested endlers/ red marble bn/ 4 stripe RCS/ pumpkin shrimp

Re: leaking fish tank
I had to do that recently with a 30 gallon.
Had it set up perfectly and found a pinhole leak.
Luckily - most of my other fish are compatible with each other and could shuffle them around to make an empty tank for my cichlids.
It isn't too bad to reseal (though I can't recommend the smell of fresh silicone in a 30 hex LOL)

Re: leaking fish tank
Yeah, just find the area where it's leaking, then cut out all the silicone from corner to corner on that side. If you want to reseal the whole tank, go for it, but we've done corner to corner and it's been just fine.
It's too bad you live so far away from us. I could have come over and walked through it with you. :(
BUT if you just want to pay someone to do it, call Charles at Fish Ranch and see what his guy would charge to do it.Our Fishhouse

Re: leaking fish tank
They are saying you have the option. If you are worried about the integrity of the tank on a whole, then reseal the whole thing. If only one place leaked, then reseal that side only. I sat thinking about what I would do given the opportunity, would do. I figured I would reseal the whole thing if I felt confident in my ability. There is also no harm in asking someone on here to help you (who has previous knowledge). Several on this board would probably be willing to help you if alcohol or a meal could be provided. ;-) um... that wouldn't be me btw because I haven't had the necessity arise. *knock on wood*5.5 fw fluval chi - class N top bar snake chested endlers/ red marble bn/ 4 stripe RCS/ pumpkin shrimp

Re: leaking fish tank
I think it is very importent to remove all of the silicone from the tank. Scrap all of the silicone out with razor blade. Then come the most inportent thing, CLEAN the glass with alcohol, be sure it is dry, dry ,dry!!! And then reseal it. After you have put the seal down you can spray a very light mist of acohol on the seam anf use you finger to smooth it down. I am sure there are many other ways to reseal, but this has worked for me.
