Melanoides tuberculata aka the Malaysian Trumpet snail are often viewed as pests but if you have a tank with sand substrate, these gems keep the substrate mixed and prevent air pockets. they also scavange/eat left over food and such. Yes, they reproduce fast but I find their benefits often outweigh that. I keep them in all my tanks.
These can also be a food source for full grown puffers such as Fahaka, Fugu, & Mbu....however, shells are extremely hard compared to other types of snails, so generally need to be crushed before puffers will eat them.
