Found one on craigslist for $60 but the person selling couldn't really tell me
any info on it like age, shape, etc..etc.. and it's way out in spring
I'll ask next time I try to make it out there to his shop.
Got to get one of those broken line royal pleco, such a great price.

I don't have a 2217 but I do have a Rena XP3 that I'm not going to use after all.  For $100 even I'll put brand new pads and carbon in it for you.  For $75, you can have it as it sits.  Works like a charm, it's just a bit large for the tank that I'm looking to build.

          Let me know.

I've never had that brand before, how are they compared to Eheims?

I can get a 2217 from Big Al's Online for $ 131.94 USD shipping included
                                                                        -$20.00 if I use my V.I.P. points
but nevertheless I was hoping to spend a little less that that...

              Re: WTB Eheim 2217

Do a search on here, you will see many debates on the two.  Most everyone on here either uses the Rena XP line or the Classic Eheim.  I like them a little better because of the priming issue that you run into with the Eheim.  It's not a big deal once you get the hang of it where as the Rena you just fill the intake tube and drop the lever and it's pumping.  The Eheim is a little trickier because it has no self priming feature.  Look on Fosters and Smith at the Rena to see the specs if you are interested.  If you don't want it, it's no big deal....I'll just over filtrate the 40 breeder that I'm setting up in the near future.

There was a recent post where quite a few box members had good things to say about "their Rena's"....I'm inclined to believe they are fairly good fliters.

                  Thanks CF.

On a side note, there is a store out here in the Clear Lake are that has some really good prices on the Classic Eheims.  I'm not sure if he has any 2217's in stock right now but I know he has 2213's and 2215's.  I'm sure he could get you one with the quickness.  I think the 2215 runs about $100 for reference.

a 2217 would do the trick
just one of those folk on over filtering a tank lol

If you are doing a planted tank, you might want to think about a 2215.  A 2217 might give you a bit too much flow in the tank.  It really all depends on the bioload you plan on keeping in the tank.

                        I have 10-12 of them, I prefer the XP3.
I have a couple of 2217s you are welcome to.

                          Re: WTB Eheim 2217

Most used 2217s are missing media and hoses need to be replaced.....if you factor the cost of those two in then you are almost at the cost of a new one. I think Dan is selling his for $120 which is relatively good being that he is an actual store front.

If you have not bought eheim media then you could not know how the price compares.

                            Re: WTB Eheim 2217

Also....owning both rena xp3 and a few different eheims I say they are close in performance but the eheims will run longer without being cleaned and pull a lot more gunk out.....plus with the intake being at the bottom of the canister is a plus IMO.

The cost for the two is comparable if you find cheap media for the rena....the eheim classics come filled with media which I think is the plus.

The two filters are pretty equal, but I also agree with EK, that the Eheim filters a lot more mateial and still keeps on trucking.

Either way, Mike has a good deal on that XP3 a new one is $160.  The 2217 with media for $120 from Dan's is also a great price.

Either way they are worth the deals, if you can find a used 2217 compelte with valves, hoses, and media for under $100 it is a good price for them.
