This is going to get long, but just bare with me and it might be a happy ending :)
I need some more shells for the shell-dweller tank I'm doing (see my post over in the African Cichlid area). I picked up the tank Sunday and then spent another $20 driving to 2-3 LFS and never found shells I liked.
Looking for Japanese Land Snail, Whales Eye, Babylonia Spirata, etc.
I can order some from various websites, best price I found on most was about 27 cents/shell, if buying more than 25 shells and then add shipping, probably 35 cents per shell once your done.
I can get 24 Whales Eye shipped to me from Aquabid for $13.49.
Then I found this wholesaler's website. Shellhorizons.com that has great prices. Only catch is, you have to order a minimum of $50.
For that $50 (Actually $50.50), I can get 100 Fernandezi Snails, 100 Japanese Land Snails, 100 Yellow Land Snails, 100 Whales Eye and a gallon of Babylonia Spirata (not sure how many that is, one link on the website says a gallon of 1/2 to 2-1/2 inch shells is 350'ish pieces). All of those are listed in the "Medium Size" section on the website (go check it out). Still have to pay for shipping, but I'm guessing all of that would fit into a 23X16X11 25lb box that they ship Florida to LA for $25.14, a little less to Kingwood I'd think.
Worst Case,... If shipping is double (2 boxes), that's still a delivered price of about 20cents per shell, less for the Babylonia Spirata depending on how many are in a gallon.
So, here's where all of you come in. Who's interested in part of the action ?
I'm not looking to make money on this, just splitting the cost. Once shells come in, we could set up a date/time/location to meet and part them out. If it works well, maybe we do it again later with other shells or a bigger order ? I'd also be open to swapping shells for fish as I'm getting my 20 gallon-planted back up and running after taking it down before I left town for 9 months if anyone would be interested in going that route.
So, who's in and for about how many shells and which types ?
