im looking to buy a stingray for a reasonable price. a nice one please let me know if you can help meeeee!
im in florida visiting wanting to send it up to rhode island. and i need to buy a tank for it too. so if you can help me out with that too that would be great too. thanks i dunno. keep posting me.

Do you live in Texas or somewhere else ?
I understand that a few states including Texas has the freshwater Stingray as an exotic and therefore illegal to own/posses in Texas.

If you are not in Texas then you are safe on getting a stingray.  Now tank size...  Here is the deal.  When I saw them they where about 6 of them in a 125g tank.
They had a hard time turning etc...
I would say no question about it get a 210g tank (7ft x 2ft x 2ft) or bigger if possible.  I would say minimum needs to be a 180g (6ft x 2ft x 2ft)
They seemed to love going back and forth in the tank but they would always go up the side of the glass so they could turn.. which shows they are a little cramped in there.   I am almost thinking that a pond would be the way to go, but then you would have to go outside to see the critter, but he/she would have plenty of space.

well i live up north so it would have tp live inside. but thank you for filling me in, i looked at that fish store onlinme and it seemed as iff they dont sell stingrays online. but i petted them at the zoo today and thats why i want one

ahh.  Reading another post by you I saw you where in Florida.
Well the best thing I can offer is that you contact FishGallery here in Houston and see if they will ship it to you in Rhode Island.

another good place to find fw stingrays is over at www.monsterfishkeepers.com.  They have a whole section devoted to stingrays and you can find some good hook-ups there.  Also try www.waterwolves.com

Best of luck.  Like others have said, you need a big tank, but mostly one with lots of bottom space.  Water quality needs to be excellent and feeding these critters is not inexpensive.  You have to be careful with submersible heaters as well as they can burn themselves.  When you buy the teacup rays, be sure to find out how large they get.  Also some of the exotic rays can cost upwards of $2k plus each.

Lastly rays have barbs.  If you startle one, you can get barbed and that usually results in a trip to the emergency room.  The barbs have a nasty coating that unless cleaned very well can cause a nasty infection.  Ask the experts at the 2 sites I cited above lots of questions before you buy one.

Good Luck, like everyone says they are "ILLEGAL" to have, sell, show here in Texas. I don't think anyone here wants to get into any trouble. You can find one on your own, just keep searching. Sorry if this sounds rude, I just would hate to see anyone of us to get into some serios trouble.  Look up Texas wild park website and see for yourself.
