  • Questions about selling fry

I stripped about 40 Scaenocromis fryeri (Electric blue) fry on 9/7 and stripped about 80 Pseudotropheus crabro (Bumble bees) on 9/27.  I would like to keep them for a while so I can observe them But eventually, I will have to let go of them when they out grow the tank space.

I've never sold fry or juv before.  I live in Port Lavaca which is about 120 miles away from Houston.  The close by city is Victoria about 35 miles away.  Somebody had mentioned to me selling fry in auctions.  Below are my questions:
    1.  Do I need to join a club in order to sell or buy in the auction?
    2.  Beside auctions, does any lfs in Houston buy fry?  any wholesaler who would buy fry in Houston?
    3.  What is a more reasonable quantity of fry of one particular spice to be sold in auction or store?
    4.  Will it be more profitable to sell juv than fry?

The lfs in Victoria only take juv and adult fish for credit which mean I have to buy stuff from the store.  The owner is a nice person but there isn't much stuff I need from her store.  I wish there are lfs like those in Houston around here.

Thank you for sharing info with me.

    Re: Questions about selling fry

Your location makes dealing with you a bit tough, and your fry are not in great demand, (in my opinion) but it's worth a shot to try to sell them at the upcoming GHAC auction or the HAS auction. Both will require a small membership fee I believe, now I am not positive on that, but even if so, it won't be too much. I would shoot for selling them all at once to a LFS owner here on the box....I know one or two.... :)   Charles.....Dan.....idea's???

There might be some folks here that would like to take a few off your hands if your willing to work with them on the delivery terms...???

    Good Luck with your fry.

Call me tomorrow and we'll discuss. I'll go over all the options with you....bringing them to my shop....to the HAS auction....etc. I'm probably the closest shop to you and also probably know as much as anyone about what fish will go for at an auction. Between 11A-7P. 832-595-2777

          Charles,

I thought you were in the Fish Range II store.  If you are now in Rosenberg, then I definitely need to pay you a visit.  What is the name of the store?

I would probably call you around 6:00 to 6:30 PM.

          Thanks again.
