YEp its a done deal. Im getting a 55 gal tank with stand, light, and hood for $80. I found a brand new Whisper 70 for $20 from a friend. Is $100 a good price for this stuff.

newb.... a whisper 70 is not going to handle the Malawi's I am sorry to tell you that. On a 55 you are going to want to put either a pair of Emperor 400 or a pair of AquaClear 110's on there to get enough water movement and enough cleaning power against these cichlids.. but with that you will have everything you need :) SUPER congrats on getting a bigger that :) I am glad to hear you are doing it right :)
Check and see if there are anyone here who has some to sell :) You will be very happy once you have a pair of those running on your tank :)

I am sorry.. I didnt mean that to crush his hopes and dreams... get one and get a second one when he can afford it. Just make sure that he keeps only the tank full of juviniles like he has now and then as they grow out to full size adults, make sure that the filtration is there. My 58 gallon tank has a AC 110, Eheim 2213, and a Oddysea EX350 with a sponge filter filter on it. This keeps a good strong current in the tank and makes my juvi trophs happy (togehter with my 8 adult cyps) until they all move.

Update: I now have a 55gal tank, substrated for the bottom, a new heater, and im now searching for aquaclear 110's! wow my girlfriend is going to kill me. oh well...wait till she sees what im buying her!!!
