I just got my 55gal tank this morning, but it didnt come with filter. i was thinking about using the hang-on-the-back style filters. does anybody have any for sale on here for cheap/inexpensive?

Check with EK he had a few for sale.There is no "normal" life, it's just life so get on with it.

I use 2 Whisper 60s (HOB) on my 55+ planted tank. (and on my 3 45g breeder tanks)
I prefer them because they are so easy to change out the filter. I can walk down the isle with a bucket, pulling out the old filters and poping in new ones. and be back at my works station cleaning 20 old filters in less than 5 minutes. If they get green and slimy, I can pop off the motor and drop them in a bleach solution and tomorrow they will look like new filter. and the replacment parts (impellers, filters) are inexpensive and available everwhere.
