In terms of helping to speed up the cycle the vast majority of the beneficial bacteria is in the bio-film attached to the rocks and substrate. I'd ask for a cup of substrate or a chunk of rubble from someone's sump instead. If you are just cutting costs by scoring some free salt water--the more power to ya! Good luck with your set up.While I'm not reef ready, I am salt ernate lifestyle curious...

Not necessarily speed cycle just so I don't have to put a whole new 35 gallons of brand new water in a tank that doesn't need it. I have a 10 gallon full of stuff ready to be transferred to my fuge but, I would rather get a established water so I dont have things going out of wack and yea I'm pretty much trying to get someones water change water. Everyone wins in that game.Originally posted by Bedlamer View PostIn terms of helping to speed up the cycle the vast majority of the beneficial bacteria is in the bio-film attached to the rocks and substrate.
