This year, I have three very large Aquatic Science classes in which the student pair or triple up and set up and maintain either a saltwater or freshwater aquarium all school year. In the past, I have had two classes and 18 aquariums going...student proved the fish and fish food...I provide everything else (we are at a poverty school). With the number of students this year, I need 27 tanks and already have 24 - I need three more tanks to prevent student overcrowding. If you have an unused tank and would be willing to donate it (I can prodive a tax letter fromt he school), we would be so appreciative. If you would like to see pictures of our tanks last year, I am willing to send them to you. If you donate, I will send pictures of the tanks when we get them set up this year.
I feel very stongly about the students getting the experience of setting up and maintaining a tank in a safe place. Only 8 of the 24 tanks belong to the school, the rest I have gotten myself through trades, my own personal tanks, and buying at garage sales. If you could help with tanks or any other supplies, we would be so appreciative. Many students become hooked and get their own tanks at a later date and that makes it even more fulfulling.
