  • Think strawberries is a common name for a different sp.

The two sp. In question are merah and brigittae

    • Interesting . . . I'll look at mine when I get home. I noticed that they colored up, but did not look too closely at them. I personally like the merahs better.

ek: You should have already had a couple merah when you emptied my 30g tank that had CRS of fish.

If anybody wants to switch some around to try to get all of one species, let me know. I'll switch with you.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

      • i will look at mine too, here's a good article from an expert on these fishes on the differences:

i guess i wont care either way as long as they get red. i read softer water will result in more red

        • Yeah I have like one that I noticed from the previous but now there's a larger group of them.

Ill keep mine since it'll be too much trouble to dig them out.

          • You know what? Never mind, I might just be confused with a different fish or something. After seeing the pictures in the link, I think mine might be all brigittaes. At first, I looked up the merah on google images and they looked like what i thought were strawberries. I really can't tell the difference between most of these. As long as these guys get more red, I'm fine. Just thought I had a few different ones mixed in.

What tankmates do you have and what kind of set up?

                • Agree there's something wrong, I acclimate for about 5mins and just net them all into the tank and even with my oxygen deprivation at night I haven't noticed any dead or diminishing numbers.

Kiko lost some fish too ( his 2217 on his 5.5 gallon tank may have been the cause of the problem there).

You put bororas in a new tank that never had any other fish, correct?

                    • Yeah... So they are in a new cycled 20 long HC floor. No other tank mates. No co2.

How are the water parameters? If your ammonia or nitrite spiked, or even your nitrate, that's probably the issue. Boraras are pretty sensitive to water quality and do the best in seasoned tanks. Check your parameters and keep us posted!

This would show if the o2 levels are dropping radically
