I believe all of the Sulawesi crabs (vampires and red devil) crabs require terrestrial and aquatic conditions similar to fiddler crabs, but I could be wrong. I have seen the Halloween crabs mentioned, but I have not investigated them for required captive maintanance. If I were looking at a fully aquatic crab species to handle some rough cichlids, I would look into the Tanganyikan crabs of the family Plathytelphusa or the Malawi blue crab. They are both large and quite tough, I'd actually worry about the fish. Atlantis has them both for sale for 30-40 bucks for large WC specimens

    • Well my wood sticks out the top of the water a bit, I figured I'd drop the water level an inch or two to give more land but I don't want something that's going to need a brackish area or the larger amounts of land you'd find in a terrarium. If the price were low enough I'd also be willing to try some and see if they do okay; my Firemouth is 2.5-3" and the rest are smaller right now so nothing but micro crabs would be considered obviously sized food. Was hoping for something more than the standard lfs varieties. Adding a pic so you can see what I mean about the wood here

      • i'm down for RDC (yeah you know me!). i could probably go for another 4-6, depending if i can get more females than males, for my new build. from my observations of them, 25-33% water area is probably good. they tend to be far more terrestrial but need water for soaking before a molt and for breeding. i have read the juvies tend to stick to densly planted bog type areas. for an example of a totally sweet setup go to mellowvision.com. the 45 gallon paludarium was featured in four issues of TFH last year but there are some pics on his website. i am looking for the mags somewhere myself.

You can include vampires and panthers . . . same requirements though. Panthers would be a bit more
          I believe.
