Not really but it does help the clarity of the water, that's all I use it for.

I find that if you run more than what the it suggest as far as tank size it last longer before needing to be replaced.
I've had this 30g running for a few months now with all that crap in it and all the beans look like new still. Probably could go almost a year or more before having to toss it out and replace it.700g Mini-Monster tank

Not sure if this has been touched upon, but you can soak the purigen in a bleach/water solution to regenerate it as well. I have 2 bags per tank rotating whenever I maintenance my canisters. Google "how to regenerate seachem purigen" and I'm sure it'll come up with something a little more detailed.
Also, white stockings from walgreens (99c for 2, the one's in the quarter toy dispenser machine container) works well as a media bag even through the bleaching, otherwise you can use "the bag", I've used both and notice no difference between the two (for flow).Last edited by digitallinh; 04-09-2012, 08:55 AM.
