  • Petco - dollar per gallon

Was at petco today and they had their tetra tanks @ 1 dollar per gallon. Does anyone have any experience with tetra tanks?

Glass is a bit thin and the silicone is usually subpar, but I've never had an issue with the few I bought. They're not bad for the price

Cheap tanks that are generally good for most setups. Especially breeder setups.

They aren't that bad, but far from show tanks. Silicone job usually is excessive and sloppy.

They used to carry Aqueon tanks for their dollar sale which I think is a better quality.

Just a tad bit better. Glass is still thin, but silicone job is much more neat

My 150 gallon tank is from Aqueon. The glass is thick and heavy.

It's not that thick. 1/2" glass. AGA tanks are alright. On the smaller tanks they're slightly thicker than the Tetra tanks. They're good when comparing big box stores and what they offer, but far from being the best tanks. Of course AGA > Tetra all day everyday. The old school Oceanic tanks are IMO best manufactured tanks next to custom made tanks, but Oceanic no longer makes tanks.

ADA and Aquavas are very great tanks. High clarity and all around built very precisely. There's also sapphire glass that you can get on a tank. Wonderful clarity and can easily get in 1" glass.

At the end of the day you pay for what you get. Cheap tanks = cheaply made. AGA and Tetra tanks are definitely great budget tanks though.

It looks thick and so dam heavy. I like your point on clarity (and I'm willing to pay more for that quality), but thickness just makes the tank heavy overall. The thickness of glass is designed per load requirement, so as long as it can take the hydrostatic load, the silicone is actually the weak point.
