I hope you mean a spotted gar or a Florida gar. Alligator gars get friggin huge! 6 ft+

I saw some gar at Xtreme not too long ago but I thought I heard somewhere that it was illegal to own a gar. I might be wrong but you might wanna double check just to be sure. We have a TON of spotted gar in the lake by our house if you're serious. I hate gar. They eat up all the good fish in the lake and make it miserable to fish.

BTW, if you get one, they can easily converted from live fish (that the LFS always feed them) to pellets by dropping dried krill or shrimp right in front of them, then slowly trying the same with shrimp based pellets, like Tetra's Jumbo Min.
