  • Cleaning up a 110 RR tank for Tropheus

Okay, so I have been trying to get the "clouds" off my 110 RR for a while now. Even used Muriatic acid trick-no success. Stuff all over, scrape,scrape-nada.

So, I do what any reasonable person would do? The heck with it, put the old 110 in the dog house(yes, don't laugh, the dogs have little 600 sq. ft fully conditioned home) where it will stay and maybe, one day be used a a grow out tank.

Anyway, like someone on hers said, Ultimate Fish had a 180 Gallon. I say had, because I now have it at home. I also bought the Mission Style stand they had in there. It's a "scratch & Dent" stand, but with some minor cosmetic work, it will be good to go. I have a bunch of Mission style furniture in my house alreday, so it will fit it well.
It was the first time I had been there and they had more Tangs than any other place I can remember. I like the Ilangi/Petro tank. I'm thinking Ilangi colony for the 180?

if you can hold out for a month or so...you can jump on the old world group order with us and save yourself some money on some quality fishes. Ilangi was on the last list.

Yeah, I'm on the list. Let's hope we can get the order pulled together soon?

Need to get the freakin off the bedof trunk tonight and painted. I'm thinking about using my motorcycle ramp and slide it down? Ultimate was kind enough lo let me use their dolly. Will return it tomorrow when i pick up the stand.

Any special tips on painting the glass? Bought the Black Krylon like someone said. How many coats?

Ilangi are knock outs. You can't go wrong with them.
Nice score on the tank. Can't wait to see it up and full of fish.
              Good luck,

when i used the krylon to paint the back of our tank, i painted a light coat, starting top to bottom, then went back over it, slowly with a slightly thicker coat. but the krylon dried so fast i didn't need to wait, then apply another coat. also, make sure you are WELL VENTILATED AND TAPED OFF! it tends to waft and spread. good news is it comes right off laminate with hot water and a rag, bad news is it can dye skin for up to 2 days. lol. don't ask. i painted one blue...looked like a smurff for a day or so.

Cichlidchik-wish I had read your post before I painted the tank. I just sprayed four cans of black Krylon and I have 1/2 can of paint lodged in my nose hairs! Not good! No wonder why when I was using the self check out at Home Depot (with 4 cans of paint) it said I needed to show my ID? Guess kids snuff it or something. Not sure why-I'm getting a headache!

180 Gallon Tank Update: Picked up the "scratch & dent" stand from LFS today. Thanks go out to Gene D who volunteered to help Wife and I put tank on stand Unfortunately, the Aqueon "Mission Classic? stand needed more screws and glue than I originally thought, so could not put tank on stand today.

This is my first experience with Aqueon tank and stands. I must say, I am not impressed with either. The tank just does not have that good old solid old school Oceanic quality to it? The Aqueon stand? Have you ever been to Ikea? Yep, same type of quality-assembled with screws. Frankly, by looking at the thing, I'm not sure how it can withstand the weight of tank and water? It is that unstable lookng to me? I'm thinking it needs some modifications to get this thing reinforced? HMMMM 180 gallons X 8.34 Lbs/gal = 1,500 LBs.!!!!! Anybody have any helium I can use under my tank?

Is this just me, or have others felt the same with these stands? Do I dare put rocks in the tank? Let's hope the weight of the rocks displaced more water, so the net affect will be a reduction in weight?
