you could probably pull off the famula varients...they're a little smaller fish. maybe get 10 and weed out the males like down to one or only two at the most.
dont worry about it man, you can most likely get away with most varients excluding some that get in upwards of 8 in. If youre going to breed in a 5 foot id try to only get one male as seeing how that ratio is KILLER in a fellow members 7 foot tank so it seems necessary in a 5 foot.
Yeah... I know that my 13 Famula Kaiser Pond Raised worked in a 55 gallon (4 footer worked) I even got them to breed in that tank.
I later moved them to a 150 gallon (6 footer). The Famula Kaiser are housed with 13 Wild Caught Red Dorsal Rainbow Kipili Macros.
But like I said the Famula were Pond Raised. I will try 5 F1 Nyanza-Lac Famula & 5 WC Petro. Orth. Ikola .
All of them are 3 - 4 inches except the Ikola male that is 4.5 inches.
Thanks to all
i would say famula, trews, maybe even texas bulu in a 5ft tank would work, if given the right ratio.
i think in a smaller tank, ratio is key, i think 1m and 6-9 females would do fine in a 5ft tank.
you wont know until you try.
all sp. texas max out 10+ inches. I would not put a colony of them in a 5 footer. The key with keeping petros is less on ratio and more on 1) individual personality of the fish and 2) pack them tight with ditters. John's colony of Polyodons is an exception to the rule....plus he got tank size to back it up.
I have a breeding colony of petro trews in a 3 footer (3x2x2). I think there are 8 adults with only 1 male (since my big male jumped several months ago). I've gotten the most fry I've ever gotten from them in this set up (currently about 10) living with the colony.
I had a lot more petros in the 4 footer, but every now and then some would get killed.
