  • Saved My Cories Life

Thought I'd share......Earlier this week I noticed one of my Peppered Cories was acting weird so I kept an eye on the aquarium. A few minutes later I saw him shoot to the top of the tank and do the "death sink". Since I was right there I decided to try to see if I could save him. I grabed a container added some aquarium water, then added even more tap water with a dallop of Amquel Plus and scooped up the poor little guy into the container. Next I grabbed a straw and blew air bubbles into the container and after a few minutes it seemed like he was improving some; then a few minutes later he was trying to swim some. So then I put the container in one of my other aquariums to float. After about 20-30 minutes he was swimming around and wanting out of the container and into the aquarium. He has been in that aquarium for the past few days just swimming around and acting as normal as Cories do!! Felt really good to save a little fishy life!!! :)

I think one of the levels in my aquarium spiked up and this little guy was the first to "feel" it. I have other sensitive fish in that tank including Cories, Kuhli's and Neon's and so I didn't check out my parameters. I just figured one almost bit the dust, so something was off & didn't want to chance loosing another fish so I just did a 40% water change ASAP; so far so good. Up until this happened the fish were all acting normally with the exception of this one little guy and since that happened everyone in the tank is still doing great. :)

I got lucky being there when this happened but I thought someone else might find this useful someday in a similar circumstance.

    Hey man, good save!

IME, Blood Parrot is also super sensitive to bad water, and they are the first to react by developing some black spot all over the face, fin and then their body. The worse the water condition is, the more black spot will appear. Maybe I'll put one BP in each tank just to weather the water chemistry. :)

Dodged a bullet there! Good job. Normally if something is off, corys will reflect that.

Puffers are probably one of the most sensitive fish.
