I recently sold most of my adults and started growing out my babies...at about 6-8 months or so and at about 2.5-3" is when my males start to have noticeable bristles compared to the females...

It's black algae. I thought I beat it back, but I turn the 2 set of lights on to soon and it came back. So now it's off again so I'm just waiting it out. The plants are winning again and the black mollies are helping.

Looks like hair algae but black and thick, grows on slow growing plants. Common with hard water so I read.

Never mind. A BN will eat any algae IME.

Every group I have ever had has been a little deferent in the time it takes but there is always a dom. he will grow bigger, faster, and his bristles first. The group I have now. You can already see the Dom.

How long are you running your lights everyday? How often do you feed?

I have never seen a plecostomus eat black brush algae (BBA). I have it growing on wood and some plants (especially bucephalandra) in my aquarium. Since setting up my CO2 system, it has not spread. Surprisingly, my angel fish and pearl gouramis eat it.

Now that my plants are putting out new leaves on a more frequent basis, I am trimming the older leaves infested with BBA.
