Cycling New Media on a cycled tank

I doubt it would make or break your ability to cycle quickly. My choice to use "aged" water was more out of convenience than anything else. Already had the siphon going

How long will the beneficial bacteria on my media last if the filter flow has stopped and water cooled to room temperature? If it dries out its dead for sure, right?

I'm not quite sure how long they last without water but I did a 100% water change for about 1hr a few times and I cut off the return pump. The bacteria in the sump was still going strong
