  • New Fluval FX6 Worth Upgrading?

    Hey Guys

I came across a eBay listing for the new Fluval FX6, successor to the FX5.
I was not aware that Fluval has released the FX6 so i did some research,
from what i found it does not look like there are any groundbreaking upgrades
    from the FX5.
It looks like the new Fluval FX6 will be priced around $350 which is $100 more
than the current FX5, personally i don't see the need to upgrade.
On a positive note we might see some good FX5 pricing from retailers as they clear stock...

The Fluval Fx6 External Filter is a high performance aquarium canister filter. The very latest design from Fluval offering super quiet operation.
The FX6 compact super capacity canister processes and circulates 2130 litres of water every hour and accommodates the stack of media baskets with a capacity of up to 5.9 litres of media. The combination of precision engineered baskets eliminate any water by-pass.
Designed at a height of only 54cm (21in), the FX6 fits under most aquariums.
The filter incorporates Smart Pump technology which employs and electronic circuit board to monitor the pump ensuring powerful output and energy efficiency. This filter consumes 10% less electricity than its predecessor.
AquaStop valves feature click fit technology for fast set up and leak proof maintenance. The valves rotate for easy positioning. The filter is self-starting.
The heavy duty anti-clog telescopic intake ensures continuous flow and the twin return outlets can be adjusted to create specific water flows. There is a bottom purge valve for easy maintenance and flushing of the canister.

It's been released for a while now, just not over here. Folks on TPT have been talking about it.

I have always liked Fluval. They work great. don't use much Electricty ... If they made it 10% less electricty. thats a goodthing. I wont be the first to try it but its nice to see they are still trying to make them better...

It looks to have some 1400L-400gph rating as the FX5, I think the knobs are useless. The white media baskets in the picture don't look as ridged as the original and I don't see the handles that allow you to remove all three baskets at once. The only upgrade I see, is the 10% less electricity consumption. I don't think its worth spending an extra $100 on, I'd stick with FX5. For the price they are asking, In my opinion I would be better off getting an Eheim 2262.
