I'd like to hear from those who have purcahsed this sugar sand, how do you all like it after a couple months in your tanks?

There is still 8 bags left.

Try to get those pictures sometime James.

          Mine is awesome!

It's still white as can be. And I can also testify to the fact that it takes about 5 minutes to clear after setting up a new tank with this sand. (Okay, I'm exaggerating - 15 minutes, tops.)

lol, its cool sand. i got a similar white snad BEFORE Steve made his big order, thats what is in the 55 still waiting to be moved. it has 40 pounds of white moonsand (thats what its label said so bite me) in it and i love how it looks. but i agree that it would be better with fish that dont disturb sand much. community and the like.

I'm wanting to put this sand in a 75gal that I'm setting up. I will be putting Pseudo's in this tank which will be stirring up the sand. Do you all have any concern's with using the sand? I really like the looks of the sand in my nano but want know if you think this will be an issue.

                Thanks,

As long as the tank is deeper than 12 to 14 inches, you should be fine. The sand is so fine, it will literally pass thru most filtration systems without issues.

As with any thing you place in your tank, pre rinse, and then pre rinse again, remove as much fine dust as possible to cut back on the initial cloudiness after setting up your new tank.

Thanks CF, I will procced with setup. I was thinking of setting up an under sand jet system to help keep bottom clean, but maybe I should re-think this.

                    Thanks,

I actually have a few kuhli loaches in the tank with this sand, and it seems heavy enough that when they "slither" across they only leave little tracks - they don't seem to stir it up much at all. Just an observation, in case it helps.  :)

I appreciate hearing from those of you who have purchased the sand, I am happy to see that most of you seem happy with it, that's good. I wish I had not used it in the troph tanks, they just a big section of it aside and like to sit on the bare glass bottom in the middle of the tank.

So the sand has not affected anyone's filters eh?

I've found traces of it in my overflow box, and inside the eheims when I clean them, but nothing major to report.

I was going to take pictures... but I'm having some kind of orangish algae spots growing on the glass at the moment... not sure how to deal with it, will prolly make a thread about it soon.

one concern I have is that the fish and crayfish waste seems to sink into the sand when the cray walks and bulldozes it around.  I dont really have a way to get that waste out now without sucking up a bunch of the sand.

You need to get some water movement over the bottom of your tank then the smaller lighter (ie poop) will be floating long enough to get sucked into the filter...  (I am having the same problem so you are not alone)

I have found that using the water faucet outside the front door, (which is close enough) gives me twice as much suction power. With that much suction, I can hold the vacuum about a 1/2 inch over the sand and pick up just about any debris I can see.

The more suction power you can get out of your python, the easier it is to clean this sugar sand. Hope that helps.

so I should raise the tank up as close to the ceiling as I can, then I can get more suction out of my siphon

for the water movement... I'll put the extending tube on the filter on so the intake is lower, maybe that will help.
